Morning Skincare Routine for Acne Prone Skin

I am so excited that I finally have time to write about my skincare routine and share it with you all. Anyone who knows me is no stranger to my skincare obsession. I probably spend way too much time and money on skincare products, but I love having a routine in the morning in the evening that makes me feel good. For me, the ten or so minutes that I spend taking care of my face is such a relaxing time. Being able to take time for myself before I go to bed or before I start my day really helps to put me in a great mindset. I also have been struggling with acne for quite a while, so this routine is geared towards those with oily and acne prone skin. Maybe at some point (if my acne ever clears up), I will share my entire acne journey. If you want to hear more about the products I use, then keep on reading! I will try and provide links to all the products that I use.

Dr.Jart+ Ctrl-A Liquid Foam + FOREO Luna Mini Face Brush

A cleanser is not always my first step in the morning. I find that using a cleanser, especially one that foams, can be really stripping for your skin. So, I really only cleanse my face once or twice a week in the mornings. Usually, it is after I have used products that can make my skin peel so that I can get off all the dead skin. Though the Dr.Jart+ Ctrl-A cleanser is foaming, my skin doesn’t feel totally stripped afterward. I also like to use my face brush as a physical exfoliant in order to make sure I get all the grime and old skin cells off my face. After I use these two products my face feels so soft and fresh. The cleanser is targeted for those with acne, it is non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn’t clog pores, and it controls sebum production (sebum is the oil that your face produces that can cause acne). Sadly, the Dr.Jart+ cleanser is only available in South Korea unless you can find somewhere to order it online. Though, the FOREO Luna mini is available in pretty much any big makeup store. There are also so many pore cleansers and exfoliator pads that work exactly the same as the Luna, just without the large price tag.

Caudalie Purifying Toner

Some people don’t use toners, but I honestly don’t know where my skin would be without one. This toner is normally the first step in my skincare routine when I don’t use a face wash in the morning. I feel like it gets into my pores and does provide a bit of a cleaning effect even without a cleanser. I feel like this also calms down inflammation and redness on my face related to acne. It is a bit of a pricier toner, but it has already lasted me forever and I’m not even halfway through the bottle. If you don’t already incorporate a toner in your skincare routine, I would highly recommend you do.

Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

The next step in my skin care routine is my treatment step. The products that I use in this step can vary but the two that I am going to talk about are the my favorites. The first product that I use is an Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution of 12%. It is a serum with a stabilized vitamin C derivative. It is used to brighten and clear skin. I have seen such a difference in how my face looks. It is especially great in the morning to wake your skin up. I also don’t normally wear a ton of makeup, so having a product that makes my face really bright has been amazing. The second product that I use is Niacinamide and Zinc serum. This product is also good for ensuring that you have a clear face, but it also shrinks the appearance of pores. I swear by this product. I love the airbrushed look that it gives me while it also works behind the scenes to reduce my acne. Like many people with acne and oily skin, I struggle with large pores but this product really does make a difference. Both of these products are from the Ordinary, a skincare brand that sells skincare without all the unnecessary bells and whistles and for a really appealing price. I am looking forward to writing an entire review of my favorite products from the Ordinary. Also I want to note that I don’t like to use my harsh acne treatments in the morning when I know I am going to be out in the sun. Most of the products that I use to treat my acne make my skin sensitive to the sun, so I will use them at night.

Bare Minerals Butter Drench or Clinique Pep-Start

The last step in my morning skincare routine is a moisturizer. The moisturizer that I use now was actually a gift from a friend. I didn’t think that I would like it, considering it is geared towards people with dry to very dry skin and I fall on the opposite side of that spectrum. Though, it turned out that I really enjoy this moisturizer. It is the Butter Drench from Bare Minerals. Aside from the beautiful packaging, I really love how thick the formula is. It has a slight natural perfume, but it doesn’t irritate my face in the slightest. If I don’t use this moisturizer, then I will reach for my Clinique Pep-Start moisturizer. This one is SPF 20 so it is perfect for when I know that I will be spending a lot of time outside. I do find that this makes me a bit oily, but it is so important that you protect your skin from the sun, I don’t skimp out on it.
